Hundreds of hotel workers and OCCUPY LA participants, joined by UNITE HERE President John Wilhelm and many other members and officers of UNITE HERE, protested the Hotel Bel-Air's bad "1% behavior" on Friday, Oct 14, the hotel's grand re-opening weekend. The hotel does not have a contract with UNITE HERE Local 11. The Hotel Bel-Air shut down for renovation in 2009, laying off 250 union workers, and refused to guarantee the workers the right to come back to work when the hotel re-opened. More than 100 former Bel-Air workers re-applied for their jobs and only a small fraction were brought back to work.
Workers picketed the hotel, then marched through the famous Bel-Air neighborhood, ending with a rally on Sunset Blvd.
